Art in Space
Richard’s mother is an artist so it’s no surprise that he tried a little painting when in space. The famous artist Jackson Pollock created paintings by throwing paint at his canvas and letting gravity help. To create artworks unlike any that could be made on Earth, Richard built a paint box and allowed droplets of paint to float and stick to the paper the inside the box. As the paint dried it formed spheres rather than falling flat onto the paper as in Earth gravity.
